IMMIGRATION
EU NATIONALS
For EU nationals, or a national from the European Economic Area (Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein) a valid passport or other valid travel ID is required to study in France.
NON EU NATIONALS
For nationals from anywhere else in the world, a student visa is required to study in France. If you come from one of the countries present in the EEF list, please refer to the nearest Campus France agency of your home country. If not, please contact the embassy or the French consulate of your home country. Useful information can be found on the Campus France website.
The visa you will get will depend on the duration of your stay. Depending on the type of visa delivered, further formalities may have to be completed on arrival as shown below.

FRENCH HEALTH INSURANCE
It is mandatory to have a health insurance during your stay in France:
EU NATIONALS
European students will need a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) valid for the duration of their stay.
NON EU NATIONALS
Non-European students must register for the French health insurance on ameli.etranger website (except students from Quebec*). It is mandatory and free of charge and covers up to 70% of the medical expenses in France.

WHEN DO I REGISTER?
Register as soon as you have:
- Passport
- Visa
- School certificate** in French (LOE not accepted)
- Valid address in France

HOW DO I REGISTER?
Register online through the Ameli-etranger website for international students.

WHEN AM I COVERED?
From the first official day of class once the first 3 documents are validated.
Following this validation, you will receive your social security number.
IMPORTANT NOTE
- If you lived in France before, you will not be able to register on Ameli-etranger. You can benefit from the extension of your previous health insurance coverage. Get in touch with the closest CPAM office from your living place.
- Do not wait for your French bank account details to register on the platform
- The French Health Insurance is not the CVEC
- If you wish to be 100% covered, you can subscribe for a complementary health insurance named "mutuelle". Average cost is 20€/month.
*Students from Québec must require the form SE-401-Q-106 (exchange students) or SE-401-Q-102-BIS (free movers) from the "Régie de l'Assurance Maladie du Québec (RAMQ)" before reaching France.
